Build your own Custom Workbench

Build your own Roubo-style workbench, custom-made to suit you and your woodworking style. This solid and sturdy woodworkers workbench is a must-have if you wish to continue your craft at home. Initial costs are based on European Beech but other hardwood options can be discussed such as Victorian Ash, New Guinea Rosewood, Rock Maple or American White Oak.

Starting with large, rough-sawn timber sourced by NSoW, we will discuss the entire build process of dressing the stock, laminating the bench-top and frame components, layout and cutting of joinery, assembly, design and installation of the vise hardware and installation of the bottom shelf.

The build is an exciting and intensive week of woodworking, a full-immersion program in a fully equipped professional workshop, the culmination of which is your very own custom-built workbench, designed and made just for you. Past students comment that although it is exciting to take home a beautiful workbench, the experience and learning value of being immersed in a professional workshop for a week was very rewarding.

The cost for this program is calculated on an individual basis. Timber stock and vise hardware used will be charged at market rates. Approximate cost based on max of 3 participants would be $2600 (exc GST). Let me know if this interests you and we will add your name to the list of interested people and coordinate a suitable time.

Please note this program and time-frame is based on installing a simple vise mechanism – if you wish to install a more complex mechanism this will require additional workshop time. Feel free to contact me to discuss this option further.
